The premise:
A crew of miniature aliens operate a spaceship that has a human form. While trying to save their planet, the aliens encounter a new problem, as their ship becomes smitten with an Earth woman (Banks).
I'm a bit suprised by this film. Suprised that it wasn't as awful as I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, this is a terrible film. The screenplay is horrendous and the filmaking and special effects are laughable (in a bad way). The acting by most of the cast is amateur and almost offensive. However, there are bright spots that saved this film from a Mikey @ The Movies Award Nomination for Worst Picture. I actually laughed. Not out of uncomfortableness, not out of awkwardness; but because there were some funny moments. Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls) was quite hillarious in some scenes. He wasn't good...but he was funny. It's hard to believe that this man got an Oscar nomination (and very deservedly so) a few years ago, and now he's back to doing these movies. They don't even make him money anymore, I just don't get it. The other bright spot was Ed Helms (Andy Bernard on The Office). He's the one who really delivers all the funny dialogue. He stays true to his Office character. That's all she wrote though. It isn't the worst film of the year, nor one of the worst five, but make no mistake, Meet Dave is still an awful, awful film.
CURRENT MIKEY @ THE MOVIES AWARD NOMINATIONS:
- Worst Screenplay of the Year
- Worst Overall Filmaking of the Year
