MY REVIEW

I was reading some reviews on this movie, and the consensus seems to be that the movie is just to implausible to be entertaining. Huh?? I'm getting so unbelievably sick and tired of these so called "film buffs" and critics who can't find it in them to enjoy a movie because they are so adament about finding all the tiny imperfections of a film. These people find themselves saying "Oh well that just can't happen" or "You wouldn't see that in real life". That's movie exist people. We don't always have to see a movie thats true to life. That's why fantasy and adventure movies are around. If you can seriously nitpick a fantasy movie for being implausible...you just may be an idiot and you don't need to ever watch a film again.

With that, I enjoyed Nim's Island very much. I didn't think I would, but I'm so glad I was wrong. This is a fun, sweet little movie that the whole family can enjoy. It's a touching little film that teaches the value of connection with other human beings. The three main characters for most of the film are on their own battling the elements and other people. They all learn that they can in fact survive on their own and they don't need other people to live their lives to the fullest, but at the same time the do need that human interaction to make their lives happy. They need family. They need friends. Just to make everything they do seem important. At least thats what I took from the story.

There are many fun little adventure scenes throughout that were quirky and entertaining. Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) proves she can hold her own on screen without those pesky adults around. She climbs her way up trees, volcanos, etc. She interacts with seals, lizards, pelicans, and other animals of the sorts. She is very commanding on screen, and so confident in her performances. This little girl has the acting chops to survive in this industry. Oscar winner Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs, The Accused) has been in her share of sci-fi and adventure films. Her role is pretty physical this time around, and she adds the humor to most of the film. Shes gotten a lot of crap over the years, but when it comes down to it, Foster is an excellent actress and shows it even here in a family film.

I would recommend Nim's Island to anyone who can open their minds a tad to a film that is implausible in so many ways. If you can look past implausibilites, then you will love this movie. Like me.
