Wednesday Night TV Recap: Survivor One World No More (03/14/2012)

Last nights episode of "Survivor: One World" gave me a huge sigh of relief. Let me admit to you, I was not a big fan of the One World concept. Both tribes living on beach and interacting with each other. Constantly going back and forth begging each other for food and fire, and always bitching to one another. Also, I was hating the all girl and all guy tribe. I don't enjoy that concept. Well last night they got rid of both ideas finally! They did a tribal swap and mixed matched sexes and whoever lost the reward challenge had to move to a new beach and start from scratch. Going back to the classic format just took a lot of annoyance off my mind with this season so far. What makes the show good is the interaction of the mix of male and females. The weak vs the strong in one tribe. And no, it's not always the women who are the weak ones. I'm just glad this dynamic is back. Phew.

So how about what I discussed and screamed about last week? Colton. His insanely awful behavior last week nearly drew me over the edge and damn near stopped watching this show. It was that bad, yes. So how was he this week? Well, now that Bill is gone, his nasty attitude calmed down...slightly. Last week he was super villain who everyone hated, and this week he was demoted to normal Survivor villain. I still hate him and can't wait to see him voted off, but for all intensive purposes...he was much "better" this week. He didn't throw around to many insults towards anyone. He called his new tribe a bunch of peasants and said they won't win any challenges because they are full of weak people. Sad thing is, I agree with him. He made some kind of crack towards the weakness of his tribe, and I actually laughed, and I felt terrible. But it's true, this new tribe of his is literally the bottom of the barrel of the remaining cast. The other tribe has all the strong, buff young people (mainly young) and his tribe has the older, flimsy looking weak hags. But the other part is...Colton IS one of the weak ones. He doesn't do shit around the camp but lay around and bitch. He is under the impression that he's the best person on that tribe. Ha.

They lost both challenges in this episode, and badly. It was just embarrassing to watch these guys compete against this tribe of "Greek Gods" as Colton put it. The immunity challenge had them playing what was essentially water basketball. Monica (the oldest lady on the tribe) scored the only shot and little guy Leif who comes up to the waists of most other players, proved to be the one who worked the hardest and took more people down than anyone. There was a time when Colton was grasping onto the ball and had a few dudes on top of him trying to get it from him (he must have loved that) and he screamed "HELP ME!" like a little girl. He was shoved under water many times and part of me was like "....drown him". It was entertaining watching him struggle. But his tribe got their ass kicked.

Colton started playing both sides. Convincing the girls to vote with him and telling the guys he's just egging the girls on. Truth is, his motives aren't really clear and who knows if he actually has a plan or if he's just doing this as he goes along. I have to painfully admit that he kind of played a decent strategic game on last night's episode. Take him for what he is (a worthless dickhead), but he got all 6 people on his tribe to vote with him and he has them wrapped around his little finger. I hate him and don't want him to go far...but I have to say...he knew what he was doing last night. Even if he is a pathetic asshole. I just hope the rest of the tribe wisens up and opens their eyes soon and "blindsides" him and gets his awful ass out there. Man...I sound just as mean as him right now. I apologize. That's not right. Oh, he had another funny comment about Tarzan. That man is one of the most brain dead people there is on this season. He literally can't think for himself and I think he has dementia. Colton says "You have to tell him 80 times who to vote for...or else he might just write down a random name of someone who's not even here".

Colton convinced Alica (his new strategy queen - who is annoying) to vote off one of their own, Monica. The tribal council was a ridiculous and pointless attempt to butter up Monica before voting her off. They wanted to blindside her (a term that is becoming way overused on this show). So they all talked her up and put on cheesy Razzie worthy performances. Saying how strong she was and how good for the tribe she was. Then Lief randomly chimed him to say something nice about her...which was out of nowhere and looked like he just wanted to be part of the "fun". Then they started to kind of bad mouth Tarzan just to further alleviate Monica. She seemed so happy and proud to be considered such a well loved person. Which was so damn mean of that tribe to do that to her knowing that they were going to vote her off. That was so cruel and needless. I liked her. Oh well, it is what it is though. I fully expect Christina to go next if that tribe loses...which, who are we kidding...they will.

On a side note, Kim found a hidden immunity idol and I was happy about that. She's kind of scary looking sometimes, but I like her. Even though for the most part she's been flying under the radar. But now that she has that idol, and has power in the game...she will probably get more screen time. Last night just made me happier about this season. The mix up helped and everything started to fade back into familiar territory.
