FOX Pulls Plug On "24" Film

I just read a very unfortunate story over on IMDB, that the Fox has yanked the "24" movie off the table. They claim it is for budgetary reasons. Apparently Fox wanted to spend no more than $30 Million on the project but producer Brian Grazer said it would need to be $40 million at the lowest. The film was supposed to go into production next month when Kiefer Sutherlands current show "Touch" goes on filming hiatus. Sutherland has already voiced his very strong opinion on the matter and says he is furious that the film is being shelved.

'24' focused on the character Jack Bauer where he worked as an agent at CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit). Each season of the show took place in 24 hours. So each episode was 1 hour of real time. A little clock would show us the time periodically throughout the show. 24 was one of the most bad ass TV shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Jack Bauer takes the cake of being the most ruthless and coolest mo fo to ever be on TV. He was always yelling things like "DAMMIT!" and didn't care who he injured or shot to get answers. I mean, he had a very short amount of time to save the entire world, he didn't have time to dick around. I remember an episode where he was trying to get answers out of a potential suspect, and so he shot the guy's wife (who was totally innocent) in the kneecap just to get the man to talk. It was....amazing. There was a famous hacksaw moment where he needed to sever a persons body parts.

Season's 1-5 were some of the best seasons of TV. Season 3 is my personal favorite because so MUCH happened it was insane! That was the day where he was forced to execute his boss Ryan Chappelle and it was one hell of an emotional moment. Season's 6-8 were pretty bad for the most part but had some redeeming moments. The series finale was really good and completely set up the concept for a movie. Jack Bauer was on the run and was forced to leave the country forever. His tearful goodbye with Chloe O'Brien was one for the TV ages! The show also featured some spectacular villains! Nina, Sherry Palmer, Dina (from season 4), President Logan...a lot of female baddies for some reason, but they all rocked! Even though the show was on a serious downward spiral, I was still sad to see it go.

A movie would have been awesome to see. I was really looking forward to seeing Jack Bauer kick some ass and shoot some kneecaps. Obviously the movie would not have been done in real time, but it was planned to take place in the course of one day. There wasn't any real story elements released yet. A Fox spokesperson said they are still working on the script and may explore the movie again when Sutherland has more time. There was talks that an issue with the movie was the negotiations with Kiefer. It's claimed that he wanted $5 million for the movie to be the star and producer. Apparently Fox was only offering a pitiful (sarcasm there) $1 million. Who really knows. All I know is that a "24" movie won't be happening now...and now I'm super bummed. I just want to scream....

....DAMMIT!!!!!
