Sunday Night TV Recap: 03/04/2012

I might start doing daily recaps of TV shows on a consistent basis, we will see how this one goes. I watch a lot of television, probably to much. But might as well write about it every day right? So let's give this a shot. Keep in mind I don't watch every single show there is, so these are only my personal favorite shows that some of you may watch as well.

FOX

The Cleveland Show: "Til Deaf" (#3.12): When Donna has a midlife crisis, Cleveland must come up with a clever way to sneak off with his buddies on a hunting trip without her finding out. But a hunting accident leaves Cleveland slightly deaf, and his scheme to agree to all of Donna's ideas backfires when she makes a drastic life change and decides to go back to school. Meanwhile, Junior is up for an easy reelection as Student Body President, until Roberta decides to run against him.
To me, The Cleveland Show is Seth McFarlane's "weak link" amongst the three shows he has Sunday nights. It's still a funny show, but not on the same level as the other two. Last night's episode was as good example of an episode that was a miss. I can barely remember what even happened and none of the jokes or bits are coming back to me. Grade: C-

Family Guy: Burning Down the Bayit: Overwhelmed with financial troubles, Mort asks Peter and Quagmire to help him save his pharmacy. However, things take a turn for the worse when the trio decides to burn it down to collect insurance money.

I love when Family Guy characters commit crimes, because you know they will always be ridiculous about it and will get away with it. The whole confessing to the crime by butt dial bit was awesome. Peter Griffin is the dumbest person on TV but it's why he is one of the greats! I also loved when they made fun of the east coast pharmacy when Peter and Quagmire had to find a certain product amongst a sea of random trinkets and nick knacks. The episode also proved how much Peter and Lois love each other and how dumb they both think each other are when they both snuck out of the house and put a donkey in their bed as a disguise to fool each other. Ha! Family Guy, to me, is a show that is still going strong. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Keep 'em coming! Grade: A-

American Dad: The Wrestler (#8.12): When Barry threatens Stan's old high school wrestling record, Stan enlists Roger to beat Barry and defend his small claim to fame. However, Stan is caught off-guard when Roger, not Barry, is actually the threat to Stan's record.

Another fantastic episode to the increasingly amazing American Dad. This show is getting better with each season. I love the fact that Stan has a museum of his high school wrestling career in his house and Steve says "I've lived in this house my whole life, and you've had a museum in here I've never seen". Gotta love when characters when poke fun at the absurdity of the situation. Stan is the most insecure cartoon character there is, so when there are episodes where he has to prove himself or defend his honor, you know you are in for a good one. Watching Steve try to wrestle is hilarious! I love when he got all twisted into a pretzel and Stan just picks him up like a suitcase. Another funny episode! Grade: A

CBS

The Amazing Race: Bust Me Right in the Head With It (#20.3): The remaining 9 teams compete to get to the finish line and not get eliminated from the race.

This is my second favorite reality show next to "Survivor" (both on CBS). It usually takes me a good 5 weeks to find a favorite team. But I can tell you right now I have two teams I hate. That the two border patrol friends who annoy the hell out of me with their smugness and their friends on the race, the marine and his wife. I can't stand teams who ridicule other teams and act all high and mighty. These are people who work for the government for God sakes...show a little class. The border patrol guys came in first this leg...good for them, assholes. The Big Brother team is also a bit annoying because the girl is always crying and whining. The challenges seemed to be difficult on this episode, and they are always fun to watch people suffer over. The stacking the watermelons and stringing the harp detour looked frustrating either way, so I can feel their pain. Then they had to do that dance while balancing the bottle on their head...if I was on this show this season...no way I would have been able to do that. More power to them. Last night, the pretty boy twins got eliminated. They just couldn't crack that dancing bottle thing. I don't blame 'em. There goes some eye candy. Ha! It was a fun episode though! Grade: B+
HBO

Lifes's Too Short: Episode #1.3: Warwick creates his own website but gets few hits beyond one from a physically handicapped schoolboy in love with him and he is equally annoyed when the BBC interview his non-celebrity deputy and not him to publicise the Society for Persons of Short Stature. At least he gets a Little Lord Fauntleroy-type role opposite Helena Bonham Carter but she is not a sympathetic co-star and he ends up literally in the bin.

If you have HBO, and have not seen this show yet...you are crazy! Because this show is an absolute riot! Warrick Davis is comedic gold, who ever would have known? He plays himself but clearly he's also playing a character. Because this guy is so full of himself, he thinks he's one of the biggest actors in the world. But it's that narcissism that creates some classic comedic moments. Like in last nights episode he lied his way into being a guest on a news story and then all his rants were cut. Then he goes on to track down an online bully who mocks his website only to find out that it's a teenage boy who's in a wheelchair (not before he calls this student gay and makes fun of him). The big guest start this time was Helena Bonham Carter, and the whole season was so funny! Poor Warrick had to sit in a trash can with a face painted on it, because she didn't want to look at him! HA!  I love this show. Grade: A+

AMC

The Walking Dead: Judge, Jury, Executioner (#2.11). Rick sides with Shane on an important decision, causing Dale to worry that the group is losing its humanity. Carl's actions have unintended consequences on the group.

The best TV episode of the night. They are really building up to an eventual Shane death, and I for one, hope it happens. He dies in the graphic novel, and I can't see them skipping over that part now. The guy is a lose cannon and I'm not a fan. Then again, if he dies, you lose that dynamic so if he goes then he will need to be replaced with some kind of villain (human of course) to cause discourse in the group. But alas, he survives this episode, but...we do lose a regular member, and not one I was expecting. Dale (Jeffery DeMunn) bites it! Earlier in the episode the annoying Carl (the sheriffs son) taunts a walker in the woods and then that walker comes back to the farm and attacks Dale. Rips his stomach clean open. Daryl ends up ending his suffering by putting a bullet in his head, and that's how the episode ends. It was sad, but I guess his death was inevitable too. The other side of the episode focused on Shane and Rick siding for the first time on what to do with their human captor who was part of a gang that tried to kill some of them a few episodes back. The decide to execute him as opposed to setting him free and leading his gang back to the farm. Morality is questioned and creates tension and for everyone to be on edge. That's what I love about this show. This isn't a zombie show. This is a show about our very essence. It's about human nature and how we would possibly react in an end of the world situation where all law and morality is thrown out the window. Great performances tonight, and great build up to what I'm sure will be an explosive final two episodes. I can't wait. Grade: A+.
