Wednesday Night TV Recap: The Survivor Fiasco (03/07/12)

CBS

Survivor One World: Bum-Puzzled (#24.4). An unforgivable betrayal forces one tribe to make a drastic move that has never been done before in Survivor history, and an electrifying Tribal Council leaves several castaways speechless.

Last nights episode of the 24th season of Survivor was by far the single worst episode of the show I've ever seen. Maybe I'm over thinking it, it could be that I'm just heated and disgusted by what I witnessed on the show last night. I'm not the only one who feels this way either. It's all over the place right now as to how people are taken aback by the episode. This season is only 4 episodes long so far, but there is something about it that doesn't feel the same. It's the cast, that what it is. They split the two tribes into one tribe of women, one tribe of men and they live on the same beach (a first for the show). The women have been the biggest walking stereotypes of helpless damsels who constantly bitch. The men started off as the dumb, brooding assholes. This season is full of the most emotionally unstable human beings they have ever had on the show. Right now, it's impossible to chose a person to even root for.

I'll tell you who I won't root for: Colton. He is an openly gay young man (very open, and very gay) who makes me ashamed to be gay. My hatred for this guy goes beyond how he plays the game. He is a disgusting, vile, nasty, horrible excuse for a human being. I've never been so passionate about disliking a reality show contestant before. In the first episode or two he alienated himself from the men because he didn't feel comfortable. He automatically assumed they were all freaked out by him for being gay. Ironically, he judged them for assuming they judged him...which they didn't. They were extremely open to his sexuality but were thrown off by his alienation from them and his lack of providing at camp. He kept bugging the female tribe to which then they became annoyed with him. There are rumblings around both tribes that Colton is trying to make nice with the ladies so that he flip on his male tribe when the merge comes.

One of the women found a hidden immunity idol a few weeks back but it was one that was meant for the mens tribe, so she was required to give it to one of them. In a dumb move, she gave this idol to Colton, assuming he was on the outs with the mens tribe and the women could use Colton. Big mistake. Because last week, Colton went from outsider to the ring leader of the camp. He established an alliance of misfits, which includes a little person and 2 old men (named Troyzan and Tarzan...not kidding) who clearly can't think for themselves. Colton suddenly has this whole tribe wrapped around his sparkly little finger. They all appear to be afraid of him and terrified to confront his awfulness. Last week he wanted to vote off Bill (the struggling stand up comic) because he hates him for, at the time, unknown reasons. But they voted off the strong thug Matt instead. No loss to me, I didn't care for him.

But then last night happened. Without a doubt the craziest, and dumbest move to ever happen on the 24 seasons of Survivor. What happened was a first for the show. The first half of the episode was normal. Then the second half started with the little man, Leif, telling Bill the alliances plan to vote him off. Bill was taken by surprise. There have been tons of incidences where an alliance member has "broken trust" like that, so this was nothing unusual. But this information got back to the Queen Bee Colton and he flipped a gasket while sitting on his throne. He said Leif betrayed the alliance and no one trusts him anymore. Behind Leifs back, Colton said he should go back to Oz and also refered to him as an Oompa Loompa. But as Colton is berating him, Leif just sits there like a puppy who got in trouble and did not defend himself. No one defends themselves around Colton, he owns them for some crazy reason. I assume it's because he hold that idol, but there are more methods to playing Survivor then depending on one person to protect you. Colton won't protect these guys with that idol, they don't seem to get that. He's all about himself.

So anyway, the men win the immunity challenge in a big way. They dominated the challenge. They were practically finished with it by the time the women were done with the first part of it. There was no competition there. So while the women are at camp scheming as to who to vote off...Colton suggests one of the stupidest moves of all time. He is so disappointed in Leif "betraying" their trust, that he wants to go to tribal council anyway. Secretly though, his hate for Bill is so huge he really wants him gone. So he convinces his entire tribe, including the two men on the chopping block, to GIVE UP THEIR IDOL to the women and go to tribal council. All members of the tribe have to agree to it in order for it to happen. What baffles me...they all agreed it. WHAT?!? Leif and Bill even agree to do this. I mean are we serious? This has never happened on the show, ever. But somehow, that stupid queen Colton convinces them do it, and no one fights him because they are cowards.

So they stroll into tribal council and Jeff Probst looks stunned and completely speechless. He makes the comment that in nearly 400 tribal councils...this is the most shocking thing he's ever seen. Who gives up a free pass like that? So let's forget about that stupid move. Let's discuss the things Colton said at Tribal Council. Jeff asked why he dislikes Bill so much. Colton says Bill doesn't have a real job. Bill is labeled as a 'struggling stand up comic'. Colton says he should have a back up plan. Bill tearfully says he's been on his own since he was 17. Stand Up comedy is his passion and that he shouldn't need to have a backup if comedy is his love. I have to agree with Bill. Colton is a rich, snobby kid who doesn't actually work. He is handed money. So he has no room to judge. He said things like "I don't associate myself with 'poor me' type of people". He said only associates with people who are well educated. Ha. Bill has never walked around craving attention because he's poor. By the way, Bill is black. Colton is from Alabama, so of course the race card was sort of played. Someone asked if his hate was racially motivated. Colton said "I have no issues with African Americans, even though I went to all white private school". He went on to say "I have African American people in my life" and when Jeff asked who...Colton responds, with a laugh, "My housekeeper" and he smiled and chuckled as if what he said was funny. He doesn't realize how ignorant and biggoted he really is. He had no remorse for treating Bill like crap in the open like that. Bill was in tears, essentially because he was being bullied and disrespected for no legitimate reason.

One of the old men chimed in to defend Colton saying there more to Colton then we think and not to jump on him for what he has said. Then he went on a tirade about the race card being played and screaming "we have a black President!!". As if that erased racism altogether. He's just as ignorant as the rest of the group. How can he defend a clear cut asshole such as Colton? There is no excuse. He made a good point though, to not judge people on their race but by their actions. He put his foot in his mouth there, because Colton judged Bill based on his lifestyle alone. Saying things like "he isn't funny" "stupid" "poor" and "ghetto trash"...completely slandering him for his lifestyle, not his actions. Bill meanwhile kept saying "I love Colton, we just come from different walks of life" and "I don't judge him for being gay". He took the high road while Colton was an idiotic, disgusting, vile piece of crap. The tribe ends up voting off Bill. They had no reason to do so other than Colton's hate. The bowed down to his Queenness and did whatever he wanted. Voting Bill of was pointless for the rest of the tribe. Going to tribal council when they didn't have to was utterly ridiculous. It angered me so much, that I almost didn't want to continue watching. But I've seen every episode, and I won't give up on it that easy. But I know Colton can't possibly win this show now. There's no way. So the episode he gets voted off or loses will be a very happy episode to watch. Assuming his fellow tribe mates are intelligent enough to devise a plan to vote him off.

Next week promises a twist that throws a wrench in Colton's reign of power. Can't wait to see what that is.

I know I sound just as mean...but this is venting out of anger. His hate comes out of nowhere. Insecurity probably. But I hate Colton. Sorry to sound harsh, but he is awful. He is clearly being established as this season's villain...which means he will probably be around for a while.

Oh, I wanted to mention something else Colton said earlier. He said "I'm a republican, so I don't believe in handouts"...yet his ENTIRE life has been handed and spoonfed to him. He's apparently never worked a day in his life and yet critisizes Bill for not having a legit job. God...I want to wring his stupid little neck! AH!

Pardon my language folks, but someone needs to look that worthless piece of shit in the eyes and tell him to "EFF OFF!". End of story. Sadly, this spoiled little brat will never be changed or admit to his disgracefulness. He's making the season of Survivor extremely hard to watch.
