There has been speculation since the end of season one as to who will be returning to the second season of the successful "American Horror Story". The biggest name people have been wanting to hear is Jessica Lange, who played Constance Langdon in season one. The first season was a phenom in the television world, and it was Lange who stood out the most in one of the most daring, haunting and all around brilliant television performances of 2011. She has already won a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for her incredible work on the show.
When season one ended, show creater Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck, Glee) confirmed that season 2, and every season will feature a new family in a new house in a new city. He also reported that some of the first seasons cast members could return in the next season but not as their original characters. To me, this is a cool idea. Season ones story wrapped up pretty snuggly, they killed off their main characters Dylan McDermott (The Practice) and Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), and damn near the rest of the main cast was killed or already dead. Not to mention they were all trapped in that house permanently so those same characters returning for the next season would not be possible. So this new story and cast idea is pretty cool. Murphy said that he was in the works of getting some of the original cast back but to play completely different characters, a pretty brave move if you ask me. It was said however, that no one from the original family would return. Leaving returning hopefuls to be Lange and other fan favorite Evan Peters (Kick Ass, Invasion) who played Langes dead son, Tate.
Well fans can be rest assured today as it was officially annouced that Jessica Lange will in fact be returning to season 2 in a completely different role. It was revealed by Ryan Murphy that the show will actually focus around her new character, and will be an almost opposite to her Constance character. The new season will take place on the east coast in an insane asylum. That's all they have really revealed at this point. Lange is a wonderful actress and her murderous, sinister Constance was an absolute thrill to watch in season one. So it will be really interesting to see how she plays this new, I assume nicer, character. She plays evil well, so we shall see. I'm excited to see how it all turns out!!

ReplyDeleteYeah, I cannot WAIT for season 2 to start! Even more now that Jessica Lange will be the star of the show. I hope they bring back Evan Peters too (the kid who played Tate), he was really good. But I'm going to miss the Constance character Lange played...she was amazing! She was creepy and hilarious!
