FOX Cancels "Terra Nova"!

Source: EW 'Terra Nova' Cancelled

In a fairly surprise move by Fox, the freshman series Terra Nova has been given the axe. The show was about a group of travelers who have travled back in time to the prehistoric era to start a new life. Their world in the future has all but been destroyed so they are wanting to start fresh. They have a settlement called Terra Nova in which they are in the midst of dinosaurs and other strange creatures. There was clearly a mythology based storyline in the works with the show, that they had just barely started to scratch the surface on. There is no point in the talking the show up though, as it's already been cancelled. I will say though, I really enjoyed Terra Nova, and I'm sad to see it go.

It comes to a surprise to some people, as the show had fairly strong ratings. Averaging around 10 million viewers a week. The two hour finale a few months ago had a very strong response. It dove into a lot of story elements and answered some questions, and finally got some of the haters on board. And also, Fox has also cancelled their other big Monday night show House (a few weeks ago) and their other new show "Alcatraz" has been seriously underperforming. "Alcatraz" hit a series low in ratings during it's last episode and it's been rumored that show too, could be cancelled soon. I started watching Alcatraz but could not get into it.

Looks like Fox is cleaning house. Then again, Fox has never been a network for long lived shows. I mean yes, they have had some hits like "The X-Files", "24" and recently "House" before it got cancelled. They also have "Fringe" which seemes to be doing OK.  But Fox usually goes through more series attempts then any other network. Terra Nova was a big show, creatively wise, it was one of the better network shows there was. So Fox cancelling Terra Nova doesn't make much sense on the outside....maybe they had other, secret reasons. To expensive maybe?

Apparently though, the creators of the show are going to attempt to shop the show around to other networks, and aren't giving up.

  1. I watched this show and liked it too. It's too bad it didn't get the audience and ratings.

  2. Yeah it sucks. I enjoyed Terra Nova, but it had the curse of being a drama on Fox...that doesn't always turn out so well.
